FAQ

Who is this class for?

The course is designed for first-time innovation leaders launching a corporate venture or running a company of their own. It's based on my firm belief that building the right team is key to business success. I have seen many ideas fail, not because they weren't good, but because they lacked a great team to get the right things done. With that said, the course will also be helpful for new team leads stepping into an existing team and needing to fix a mismatch between the business challenge at hand and what the current team can handle.

What is my time investment?

Each course will need about 2 to 6 hours of your undivided attention. But magic is in the execution. One of my favorite quotes is from Abraham Lincoln, "give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax.”

You can run through the exercises in record time. But if you want to be effective, you might want to take your time to think about your answers and review them with a critical eye. Doing this will significantly increase the amount of time you need to complete the course. Not because it's difficult, it's actually quite simple which is what makes it challenging at the same time. It forces you to make choices and prioritize actions. Assuming of course you decided that you will design a team that fits your challenge and not leave it to chance, roll, and see how it goes.

How theoretical or practical is this course?

I would say 20% theory and 80% common sense meets practical experience.

There are already many brilliant books and masterclasses out there on leadership. I don’t aspire to add more to it. I love reading theory, but I see many people around me suffer through it. They either find it overwhelming, not sure how to start applying it. Or they tend to over consume theory, always learning more and more but failing to put it into practice in their day-to-day.

That’s where I come in. I take well-known business theory and complement it with my 10+ years of experience working with leaders from all types of companies and translate it into practical advice.

Why? Because for most new team leads, the easiest way to digest the theory is through examples, analyzing case studies, and talking about the best practices.

Is the course material available after I finish the course?

You will have access to the online course material and downloadable workbooks as long as you have an active account.

What does ongoing support mean?

Once you get the license, I will invite you to join the course Slack. It’s a channel for anyone with an active online course license or for those who are participating in the one-on-one team lead training.

You will be able to ask questions about the course material and engage with other participants. After all, peer coaching is an effective learning method. Connecting with others who face similar challenges allows you to learn from each other. You can share best practices and failures or even keep each other accountable for getting the work done.

Sign up for the pilot program

This course is currently in the beta phase. The course material is ready to go, but I need the last step, which is none other than to create the video content people can follow at their own pace.

Before I finalize the videos, I want to guide a group of four people through the course to test and fine-tune the video scripts. I will personally work with the group as if it was one of my training programs rather than a self-paced course.

About Ángel Figueroa

Tactical games fascinate me. Whether sports or board games, I love to read the game and break through the perceived complexity.

Business contains all the elements I like in games, especially the challenge of designing a winning team. You can take brilliant individuals and bring them together. But without a visionary leader who leaves nothing to chance, you won't have a winning team. It all starts with getting the basics in place: having a vision, setting your goals, and finding the right tactics to succeed.

I have seen too many innovation projects fail due to a lack of a good team design. Many know the theory but tend to get overwhelmed in the execution. What if you assume that business is simple by nature and that your challenge is to keep it that way. That said, ready to work on the basics?
